Russia bets on continuity of negotiations with Ukraine

Rusia, Ucrania, Lavrov, negociaciones, continuidad
Moscow, Apr 26 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov assured that Russia is committed to continuing negotiations with Ukraine despite attempts by the West to stop the peace process, the local press reported.

“The crisis in Ukraine will end with a treaty, but its parameters will be determined by the current situation in military actions,” the foreign minister said in statements to the Russian network Pervy Kanal.

Lavrov criticized how in recent days the Kiev authorities have withdrawn from several proposals reached in the talks on March 29th in Istanbul, a situation that he described as “a big step backwards.”

Regarding this, Lavrov repudiated the position of the West, in particular that of the United States and the United Kingdom, which recommend that the Ukrainian president, Vladimir Zelensky, harden his position in the negotiations with Moscow, and said that they support Zelensky because they hope to cause this way some “irreparable harm” to Russia.

In this regard, he expressed that “NATO, in fact, has entered a proxy war with Russia.”

Faced with this scenario, he warned that the weapons that the West is supplying to Ukraine will be “a legitimate objective” for the Russian Armed Forces.

He added that as a sign of the interest of the member countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to maintain the conflict between Moscow and Kiev, there was the total lack of desire to take into account the legitimate interests of Russia during the negotiations on security guarantees initiated Last December.
