The Permanent Observer of the UN Security Council, Maged Abdel-Fattah, issued a statement criticizing the double standards of the international community when dealing with crises around the world.
He affirmed that the Security Council must adopt clear measures against the recent Israeli assaults against the Esplanade of the Mosques, in the occupied East Jerusalem.
The Israeli government continues with its policy of colonialism, in clear defiance of the international will and the resolutions of that body of the United Nations, the diplomat said.
Abdel-Fattah called on the Security Council to send a delegation to the region to assess the worsening conditions on the ground and discuss how to advance peace negotiations.
The Arab League met on Monday to analyze the situation in the Middle East with an emphasis on Palestine.
Last week, an emergency ministerial-level meeting of the body was also held in Amman, Jordan, given the increase in Israeli attacks against Palestinians, especially due to incursions into the Esplanade of the Mosques, a sacred site for both Muslims and as for Jews.
