The highest Israeli justice body ruled to file the investigation on the subject, The Jerusalem Post reported.
On the eighth day of Operation Protective Edge, which ran from July 8 to August 26 of that year, Israeli troops observed several people on Khan Yunis beach and fired two missiles at them, which turned out to be children playing soccer.
According to the newspaper, the military attorney general opened an investigation that was later transferred to an institution of the General Staff created to investigate irregular incidents during that war campaign.
However, the case was closed after which the plaintiffs demanded the intervention of the Supreme Court.
The publication specified that this instance justified its decision by pointing out that the area was supposedly used by Palestinian militiamen and considered that the appropriate protocols were used.
More than 2,300 Palestinians were killed, most of them civilians, and some 10,600 were injured as a result of Protective Edge. Israel lost 66 soldiers.
