The attendance at the polls confirms the projections of between 27 and 30 percent of abstentionism for the reissue of the duel held five years ago between Macron and the extreme right candidate Le Pen.
According to partial data from the Ministry of the Interior, the number of citizens who cast their vote is two points lower than that registered at the same time in 2017 (65.30).
An estimate from the French Institute of Public Opinion (IFOP) set abstentionism this Sunday at 28 percent, which would mean the absence of 13 million 600 thousand people, 2.6 points above the presidential ones five years ago, when Macron won comfortably with 66 percent of the vote.
Most polling stations will close at 7:00 p.m., while in large cities they will close at 8:00 p.m., when the first result will be announced, although the official one will take a few more hours.
All the polls carried out until the official closing of the campaign, at midnight on Friday, attributed the victory to Macron.
