“A Russian national, a supporter of the Islamic State international terror group, has been detained in Simferopol. He was preparing to blow up railway lines on the instructions of leaders of the Krym Crimean Tatar volunteer battalion,” the FSB reported.
It further stated that the terrorist organization to which the detainee belongs is currently participating in the hostilities against the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine.
According to the report by the Russian security body, the officers seized two improvised explosive devices with a total weight of three kilograms, two electric detonators, instructions on how to plant bombs along railway lines, extremist literature and the Crimea battalion’s flag and propaganda leaflets.
Following the launch of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine on February 24, after the authorities of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic and Lugansk People’s Republic requested help to repel the increase in aggression and shelling from Kiev, the attempts of terrorist attacks in several Russian localities, mostly bordering Ukrainian territory, have been intensified.
