Such willingness to cooperate was made clear at a meeting between the head of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Lebanon, Jorge León Cruz, and Zak Kawoukji and Assaad Haddad, president and CEO, respectively, of the International Investment and Development Company.

According to a note from the embassy of the Caribbean country in this Arab state, during the meeting both parties examined the prospects for strengthening economic-commercial ties in sectors such as tourism, the biopharmaceutical industry and Cuban medical products.

On various occasions, Cuba reiterated its gratitude to the government of the nation of the cedars for the support and solidarity in favor of the struggle of the Caribbean people against the US blockade.

Both countries established diplomatic ties on June 15, 1960 and raised to the embassy level on April 19, 1961.
