Health minister takes up his duties in Panama

Panama City, Apr 19 (Prensa Latina) Panama's Health Minister Luis Sucre on Tuesday wrote on Twitter that he has taken up his duties after being away for more than a month to undergo medical examinations.

Sucre tweeted that he held his first meeting with his working team on Monday and indicated that he will always be at the disposal of the Panamanian people.

The minister underwent surgical procedures in February, for which he traveled abroad, and since then, Vice Minister Ivette Berrios assumed the position of Minister.

The Ministry of Health also stated in its daily report on Covid-19 that 184 new cases of the disease were recorded in the last 24 hours, so the country has accumulated 768,978 contagions since the pandemic was detected in March 2020.

No deaths were reported in a day, so the death toll remains at 8,179 and the lethality rate is 1.1 percent, one of the lowest figures in Latin America.

A total of 3,385 PCR tests were also made and the positivity rate is 5.4 percent.
