PT-Brazil files actions against Bolsonaro for inciting violence

Brasilia, Apr 12 (Prensa Latina) The Brazilian Workers' Party (PT) filed three actions against President Jair Bolsonaro for inciting to violence and the disruption of elections.

PT’s official website indicates that a criminal complaint was filed with the Public Ministry and another one with the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) to adopt adequate administrative measures and guarantee the security of the entire elections campaign of 2022.

Similarly, a request was delivered to the internal control body of the TSE, taking into account that Bolsonaro continues to make speeches that seek to discredit the Brazilian electoral system.

The President had stated that “we have made it easier for the Brazilian people to buy firearms. In recent years, we have doubled the number of firearms in Brazil. I always say: the armed people will never be enslaved. They will react to any dictator who wants to steal the freedom of their people”.

Bolsonaro made his harangues on April 8th, in the municipalities of Pelotas and Passo Fundo, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

For the PT, Bolsonaro’s proactive role in expanding access to firearms is motivated by the creation of militias for the violent support of his political and electoral interests.

According to the lawyers Eugenio Aragão and Cristiano Zanin, who signed the legal documents, “the actions of the President of the Republic are an encouragement to challenge the rule of law through political violence”, which constitutes “a true political asset of Bolsonaro and a threat to the electoral system, which makes action by the Electoral Tribunal urgent”.
