Añez was charged with allegedly committing the crimes of breach of duties and resolutions contrary to the Constitution.
The alleged actions taken by Añez, who was the second vice president of the Upper House at the time of the coup, to assume power in 2019 first and later the presidency of the republic in an unconstitutional manner, are being investigated.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, more than 70 pieces of evidence and nearly twenty testimonies from witnesses show that Añez, currently in preventive custody in Miraflores, adapted her conduct to these criminal classifications.
According to the Penal Code, Añez could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
