Inflation rate continues to rise in Colombia

Bogota, Apr 6 (Prensa Latina) Colombia recorded an inflation rate of one percent in March, so that the country has accumulated an increase of 4.36 percent of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the first quarter of 2022.

According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE, in Spanish), this variation rate was 2.80 percent higher than that reported in the same period of 2021, when it was 1.56 percent.

DANE added in its report that the variation rate for the last 12 months was 8.53 percent, an exponential growth of 7.02 percentage points compared to the same period of the previous year.

The annual variation rate of food and non-alcoholic beverages, and lodging, water, electricity, gas and other fuels divisions, influenced in this CPI behavior.

The Department of Statistics pointed out that food and non-alcoholic beverages had an inflation rate of 25.37 percent in the last 12 months, and the products that most increased prices were potatoes (110.22 percent), cassava (85.14 percent) and bananas (82.57 percent).

In 2021, Colombia closed with an inflation rate of 5.62 percent and for this year, the Bank of the Republic foresees that the CPI variation rate will stand at three percent.
