Correa was born on April 6, 1963, in the port city of Guayaquil. He took the office for the first time in 2007, a position he kept after calling for new votes in 2009 and a Constituent Assembly.
The politician emphasized the need to fight in his country for a citizen revolution, consisting of radical, profound and rapid change in the economic and social system, while promoting Latin American and Caribbean integration.
In 2017, Army General Raúl Castro decorated Rafael Correa with ¨José Martí¨ Order, the highest distinction awarded by the Cuban Council of State to foreign personalities.
