According to a communiqué from the environmental group, those arrested were trying to carry out a peaceful action to denounce the “irresponsibility” of French President Emmanuel Macron and other presidential candidates who wish to revive nuclear energy.
In total, 15 activists showed up on Thursday at 5:15 hours, local time, to block the entrance to the EPR facilities. They carry banners reading “For peace, neither fossil nor nuclear”.
According to authorities, “the Cherbourg prosecutor’s office confirmed that there had been an intrusion on the site and several arrests.”
Among the activists who were arrested was Jean-Francois Julliard, executive director of Greenpeace France.
