Seven environmentalists detained at French nuclear power station

Paris, Mar 31 (Prensa Latina) Seven Greenpeace activists were arrested at the Flamanville nuclear power plant, in northwestern France, on Thursday, as they tried to break into the construction site of the new EPR generation reactor.

According to a communiqué from the environmental group, those arrested were trying to carry out a peaceful action to denounce the “irresponsibility” of French President Emmanuel Macron and other presidential candidates who wish to revive nuclear energy.

In total, 15 activists showed up on Thursday at 5:15 hours, local time, to block the entrance to the EPR facilities. They carry banners reading “For peace, neither fossil nor nuclear”.

According to authorities, “the Cherbourg prosecutor’s office confirmed that there had been an intrusion on the site and several arrests.”

Among the activists who were arrested was Jean-Francois Julliard, executive director of Greenpeace France.
