In Latakia, Syria’s third largest city, thousands of people gathered in one of the city’s squares in a rally that began with the national anthems of the two countries.
Participants carried Russian and Syrian flags, and chanted slogans rejecting hostile Western policies that seek to undermine Russia’s security.
It is a demonstration of support for the Russian ally in the face of the policies of hegemony and arrogance by the US-led West, the secretary of the ruling Baath party in Latakia, Haitham Ismael, stressed.
A similar event took place in the city of Tartous, where those present declared their support for Moscow.
The Russian Federation supported us in the fight against terrorism and now we have to be with it in the same trench against neo-Nazism, officials noted at the rally.
Top Syrian authorities announced their support for Russia and their right to defend their security, and compared the media campaign against Moscow with the one their country has faced since 2011.
