Poutou, who is a municipal councilor of Bordeaux, responded through his campaign team to the questions formulated by the solidarity association Cuba Linda, which urged the 12 aspirants to the Elysee Palace in the April 10 presidential elections to state stances against a siege imposed on the island for more than 60 years.
We are in favor of lifting that blockade and the one implemented to Venezuela, which obey the imperial logic of the first military-industrial power of the planet, he pointed out.
In Poutou’s opinion, the US policy against the Caribbean nation shows the United Nations’ incapacity to act, in whose General Assembly the international community has expressed year after year the need to put an end to it, without the White House listens to the almost unanimous demand of the world.
Poutou, three-time candidate to the Elysee Palace, also expressed his rejection to the extraterritorial nature of the blockade and the Helms-Burton Act, which reinforces it, denouncing its violation to the International Law.
According to the text sent by Poutou’s team to Cuba Linda, the European Union (EU) must first evade and then confront the extraterritorial application of a blockade that attacks the economic, scientific and commercial cooperation with the Caribbean country.
He also acknowledged that Cuba currently exhibits achievements in health and science, despite the impact caused by the blockade, and urged France and the EU to strengthen ties with the island.
