Important athletes including Osleydis Menéndez, Anier García, María Caridad Colón, Dayron Robles and Alberto Juantorena will be part of the back-up group for this majestic event, in which a marathon will be utterly run for the first time.

The 42-km-and-195-m marathon will be held as an event in the following edition, Alberto Juantorena said.

Such a competition is widely followed around the globe, and we want to open up space and give room for international athletes to participate and enhance the quality of the event, María Caridad Colón, 1980 Moscow Olympic champion in javelin throw, told Prensa Latina News Agency.

She assured this competition will draw the attention of many runners, eager to compete and also learn about Cuba´s culture and idiosyncrasies, and particularly the beauty of this amazing tourism resort.
