“With deep sorrow and dismay” we received the news of Limonta death, the Jornal de Angola newspaper reported on Sunday, reviewing a statement by the National Defense and Veterans of the Homeland Ministry.
As the text recalled, Moracén contributed decisively to the national liberation process against colonialism and to the strengthening of the organizational structure for the then Popular Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola (FAPLA).
In recognition of his relevant services rendered to Angola, the National Assembly granted Moracén the National Citizen designation, and in 2015, the President of the Republic of Angola, in his capacity as commander in chief, passed his promotion to the rank of lieutenant general of the Angolan Armed Forces.
According to the publication, the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the People´s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) also expressed its “deep sorrow” for the death of the “legendary retired general.”
“In this moment of sorrow and mourning, the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, on behalf of its militants, sympathizers and friends of MPLA, bows to the worthy memory of General Moracén,” the message concluded.
