“Much deserved international recognition to the creators of our vaccines. With the control of the pandemic, the people gave them the first award. Many more will come,” the president wrote about the decision announced by Maria de los Angeles Sanchez, director general of the Cuban Industrial Property Office (OCPI), on Friday.
Sanchez told the Cuban News Agency that the recognition responds to the contributions to the national economic and technological development of the nation.
The award will be granted by WIPO Director General Daren Tang, who will soon travel to Havana with a delegation of his group to decorate the Cuban scientists.
The creators of Soberana 01, produced by the Finlay Vaccines Institute (IFV) and the Center for Molecular Immunology (CIM); Soberana 02, engineered by the IFV, the CIM and the University of Havana; and Abdala (CIGB-66) and Mambisa (CIGB-669), developed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, will receive the awards.
