In a marathon day that concluded late Tuesday evening, the Assembly, with a pro-government majority, approved cuts to the value-added tax (VAT) and redirected public funds to alleviate the current economic situation.
First of all, the Legislature approved eight million dollars to the Ministry of Public Works, two million of which to administer the buses confiscated to a recently arrested public transportation businessman.
It also approved some 17 million dollars to the Ministry of Agriculture to increase the national production of basic foodstuffs and the fight for food sovereignty.
In addition, the VAT was eliminated no only to the sale of fuels, but also to the purchases of tablets, computers and their accessories made by the Ministry of Education, for their distribution in the public system.
