Decisive fair trade to reinvent the world order

Mia-Amor-Mottley.
Geneva, March 23 (Prensa Latina) Open and equitable trade is essential to reinvent the global order and face the most pressing international challenges, Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley stressed on Wednesday.

At the beginning of the presidential talks by the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ms. Mottley referred to failures of the old global order, and laid stress on some important issues including the global debt, speedy climate change, Covid-19 pandemic and the recent Ukraine conflict.

In this regard, she stated the “global order is not working, it is not complying in all-important areas to accomplish the goal of sustainable development for most of the world’s population.

In her opinion, world leaders must show a real political willingness for transformation, in which WTO can and must be at the forefront of the change we need: transparent, fair and rooted in moral legitimacy.

Plus, Ms. Mottley said that small island developing economy exporters face digital divides, shortage of financing mechanisms and discriminatory regulations.
