Cuba strengthens hemodialysis treatment in central province

Ciego de Ávila, Cuba, March 21 (Prensa Latina) Operating up-to-date technology equipment for hemodialysis treatment allows Ciego de Ávila´s health system to strengthen this service and provide quality medical assistance, Dr. Juan Carlos Samblás, head of Nephrology Department at Antonio Luaces Hospital, said., while highlighting the arrival of 26 modern artificial kidneys to benefit 84 people.

Mr. Samblás specified that in spite of drawbacks imposed by the US government’s blockade, Cuba outlays on considerable monetary resources to guarantee stable and free hemodialysis treatment, a method regarded among the world´s most expensive treatment.

During these two-year Covid-19 pandemic, hemodialysis wards at the Ciego de Ávila Hospital did not stop providing this service, despite having equipment with more than 10 years of operation and lacking spare parts.
