New president of Turkmenistan dismisses previous government
Ashgabat, Mar 20 (Prensa Latina) The new president of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdymukhamedov, signed a decree on the resignation of the previous government in its entirety after taking office last Saturday, the Orient website reported.

The ministers will continue to carry out their functions until the formation of a new Cabinet, the news outlet said.

According to statements by the new president, Ashgabat will remain committed to the course of neutrality and good neighborliness in foreign policy and among its priorities is integrating the oil and gas industry into the international energy system.

Serdar Berdymukhamedov, the son of the former Turkmen head of state, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, won the presidential election with 72.97 percent of the votes.

The elections in the country took place on March 12th with a participation of 3,362,052 people, 97.17 percent of registered voters.

The country’s authorities scheduled early elections after the former president proclaimed his desire to give way to young leaders in politics and resigned as head of state. However, he remains as president of the Upper House of Parliament.
