Cuba seeks solution for nationals stranded in Russia

Havana, Mar 19 (Prensa Latina) Cuban authorities are presently seeking solutions to immigration situation of nationals stranded in Russia as a result of the Ukraine conflict, according to Ernesto Soberón, director-general of Consular Affairs and Cuban Residents Abroad (DACCRE, in Spanish) at the Foreign Ministry (MINREX, in Spanish).

Mr. Soberón stated on Twitter that ‘as part of consular assistance, MINREX will take steps with Russian authorities to find out a solution to the migratory situation of Cubans who are about to exceed the authorized period of stay in Russia’.

The Cuban diplomat also tweeted that due to cancellation of Cuba-Russia flights, the Cuban consulate in Moscow ‘has been in touch with Russian authorities and airlines, in view of supporting nationals who were temporarily present in Russia and have been unable to return’.

One of sanctions imposed by European nations, the United States and Canada in retaliation for Russia´s military operation in Ukraine was the airspace closure for those European nations, thus being so hard for the Russian airlines to operate.
