Upon his arrival in Maputo, the Portuguese president told reporters that he was very happy and excited to be here again, in a nation he described as his second homeland.
Rebelo de Sousa said that he expects to talk with Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi about the damages caused by Tropical Hurricane Gombe, which recently hit the northern part of the country, as well as the economic, financial, political and diplomatic cooperation, and assistance for military training.
On its official website, the Mozambican Government confirmed that the talks will include issues such as boosting bilateral trade and investment, strengthening the resilience of the two countries to face the socioeconomic impacts of Covid-19, climate change and other threats to international peace and security.
The two nations will also exchange information on the respective candidacies for Non-Permanent Memberships of the United Nations Security Council as a contribution to the promotion, maintenance and management of international peace, security and stability, the website noted.
