Honduras to implement 50-percent subsidy on diesel prices

Tegucigalpa, Mar 16 (Prensa Latina) The 50-percent subsidy on diesel prices began in Honduras on Tuesday, following the request from President Xiomara Castro, from the Libertad y Refundacion (LIBRE) party.

On her Twitter account, the Honduran president reported on the implementation of the measure despite corruption and a highly indebted executive, as a legacy by the Juan Orlando Hernandez Government, and a rise in prices globally.

According to a communiqué from the Energy Secretariat through the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons and Biofuels, the subsidy is a contribution by the Government, also headed by the presidential appointees: Salvador Nasralla, Doris Gutierrez and Renato Pineda.

It is an alternative to mitigate, to a certain extent, high fuel prices resulting from the conflict in Europe and its effects worldwide, and represents a benefit for several sectors of society, especially those boosting productive activities.

In February, the legislators of the National Congress, presided over by Savior Party of Honduras (PSH) Lawmaker Luis Redondo, approved the energy subsidy and the reduction of fuel prices, one of the first proposals announced by Castro.
