Kiev, Mar 11 (Prensa Latina) Ukrainian State-Owned Enterprise Energoatom on Friday announced in a communiqué that the country will not purchase Russian fuel to feed the power units of its nuclear power plants.

“The Ukrainian nuclear power plants are ready to operate without Russian nuclear fuel. For this, Energoatom will continue purchasing nuclear fuel from Westinghouse Electric Corporation.”

Energoatom operates four electronuclear plants with 15 power units in this country, all designed to use fuel elements, which are currently produced by Russia’s TVEL Fuel Company.

By late 2018, Energoatom and TVEL extended the Russian fuel supply contract until 2025, TASS news agency reported.

The Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM) noted that TVEL will ensure supply to Ukrainian nuclear power plants under the existing contract with modern and cost-effective fuel.
