“Earthquakes, epidemics, vaccination campaigns, devastating hurricanes (…) There are many spaces where the Cuban Red Cross accompanies us with altruism and commitment,” Portal stressed in a message on the social network Twitter.
“Our gratitude to the more than 47 thousand volunteers from all over Cuba, who with their actions heal, help and protect life,” said Portal.
The Cuban Red Cross Society, recognized by the Cuban State as an Auxiliary Relief Society of the public powers, was founded by the distinguished doctor Diego Tamayo Figueredo on March 10, 1909.
In September of the same year it was recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross, and in July, 1919 by the League of National Societies, today the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
Its action is oriented towards the welfare of man and towards the service of the community, inspired by the principles of humanity, neutrality, independence, voluntary nature, unity and universality.
