Both international bodies called for speedy social protection systems for children and relatives, as the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic became widespread worldwide, and disproportionately on the most vulnerable population group.
The statement concluded that at least two thirds of households with minors have faced income losses since the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak.
The two bodies reported that 75% of families -in a study conducted to 35 nations- with three or more children showed their purchasing power decline, compared to 68% of those with one or two minors.
This loss of income had direct consequences for adults, since one in four with children reported not having eaten for one or more days and nearly half of them skipped a meal due to lack of money.
