EU to supply weapons to Ukraine during conflict

Brussels, March 10 (Prensa Latina) The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on Thursday announced the bloc will supply weapons to Ukraine while Russia's military operation continues.

Mr. Borrell pointed out “we must help Ukraine as much as we can”, but without “escalating” the conflict, in order to avoid a “World War III”.

During an interview with Franceinfo, Mr. Borrell recalled the Western sanctions on Russian economy.

However, it would be much more difficult for the EU to refrain from Russian oil and gas imports, unlike the United States, he added.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation to fight off Kiev’s aggression against self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

Later, manifold EU member countries, the United States, Japan, UK and Canada announced sanctions on Russia and its financial institutions, companies and political elite.
