The two nations called in a joint statement to resume talks under the auspices of the African Union that would satisfy the interests of all parties.
The text was released less than a month following Addis Ababa’s announcement on the start of the power generation from the construction site, which was harshly criticized by Cairo after considering that it breached the agreements signed in 2015.
A week ago, the Ethiopian authorities rejected that view by pointing out that the talks are at a standstill due to both countries’ intransigence.
Sponsored by the African Union, the latest round of talks to resolve the decade-long dispute collapsed in April 2021.
