In turn, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Venezuelan delegation, Joaquin Gomez, highlighted the homage for the Syrian people and for all those who seek to preserve their sovereignty and fight for their rights.
The University of Damascus awarded the leader an Honorary Doctorate in International Relations in 2006 in recognition of his struggle and firm stance on just Arab issues.
Likewise, on April 17, 2014, that educational institution named a garden within its campus after Chavez, on the occasion of the first anniversary of his decease , in recognition of his struggle and his tireless efforts for the development of relations between Syria and Venezuela.
