According to Granma newspaper, the fire does not threaten the region’s communities, as it is located in a very intricate mountain zone.
Andy Luis Valle, second chief of the CGB in Pinar del Rio, explained that the fire has two flanks and they were only capable of reaching one, so it is difficult to determine the proportions of the affected area.
The fire originated in an area known as San Simon de las Cuchillas, belonging to San Juan y Martinez municipality, on Sunday afternoon.
These phenomena are a threat to biodiversity in the country, which has more than four million hectares of forests.
