Italy finally has a law that gives merit, favors, encourages and promotes the quality, sustainable organic agriculture, Stefano Ciafani, national president of Legambiente, said when commenting on the upper house’s approval of the new legal body with 195 votes in favor, four abstentions and none against.
For his part, Angelo Gentili, national agriculture manager of Legambiente, explained that ecological transition and the fight against the climate crisis also involve agroecology, and a renewal of the agricultural sector is fundamental to sustainability.
According to Gentili, from every point of view, the law “is a strategic tool to multiply the building of bio-districts in our country” and for the whole sector, even with respect to what Europe requests with the “Farm to Fork and Biodiversity” Strategies.
They set the approach for the European Union sector with broad objectives in the use of pesticides and fertilizers, sales of antimicrobials or increasing the area devoted to organic crops, very much in line with the 2030 Biodiversity Strategy.
