The permit, a constitutional requirement for leaving the country, empowers him to visit Chile on March 10 and 11 and was approved by a large majority of 74 votes against 31 against and six abstentions.
The green light for the trip was only denied by the congressmen of the far-right Popular Force party, of the neoliberal Keiko Fujimori, and some other legislators.
The permit request, signed by Castillo and Prime Minister Aníbal Torres, argued that the president’s presence in the transfer of command in Chile will strengthen the historical ties of brotherhood and cooperation between the two countries.
He also stated this will give continuity to a bilateral work agenda aimed at identifying priority issues of common interest, for the benefit of the populations of both states.
