The bridge, called Wiwili, a name of Miskito origin, and was built in the basin of the Coco River, the longest in the country and the region, and connects the departments of Nueva Segovia and Jinotega. Its construction lasted approximately one year and five months.
According to local officials, it was a dream for the families of those communities, especially for the improvement of trade, production, livestock and tourism, and the investment was close to 30 million dollars from the Nicaraguan Government.
For her part, Deputy Mayor Sonia Sediles noted that the bridge will directly benefit more than 224,757 inhabitants of both departments, and will contribute to generating better conditions for transportation and reducing accidents caused by the flooding of the rivers.
