The Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, asked the United States and the rest of the members of the North Atlantic Organization (NATO) to ban flights over Ukraine in order to prevent air raids by the Russian air force.
Speaking to the press at the UK embassy in Poland, Johnson clarified that the measure would force them to engage Russia directly, and that is something, he said, that they cannot and do not intend to do, given that the consequences of such an act would be very difficult to control.
Johnson traveled to Poland and Estonia on Tuesday to address the situation in Ukraine and visit the British troops stationed at the Tapa military base, near the Estonian-Russian border, and said regarding the economic and financial sanctions implemented against Russia that the West is prepared for a protracted crisis.
