Shoukry’s statements were made during a meeting in Cairo with Azzam al-Ahmad, a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and Fatah’s Central Committee, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez stated in a communique.
The head of Egyptian diplomacy stated that Cairo aims to bring Palestinians and Israelis back to the negotiation table.
Although the leaders of the Palestinian National Authority have repeatedly expressed their willingness to restart the talks, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett rejected that possibility.
According to Hafez, Ahmad briefed Shoukry on the latest events in the Palestinian territories and thanked Egypt’s support to his people.
Cairo has played a key role in the truce reached in May 2021 to halt the attack by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on the Gaza Strip, where some two million people live.
