On occasion of the 145th anniversary of Aguilera’s death, the president wrote on his Twitter account that this is a “day to pay tribute to Francisco Vicente Aguilera, one of the fathers of the Cuban Revolution.”
Diaz-Canel tweeted that the patriot “dedicated his great fortune to national independence and died poor, without abandoning the sacred cause. Cuba’s dignity sprouts from that seed.”
Francisco Vicente Aguilera y Tamayo (June 23, 1821-February 22, 1877) was one of the richest landowners in the eastern region of Cuba during the second half of the 19th century.
