The event is dedicated to the well-known Syrian comedian Nihad Qalei (1923-1993), who left a legacy that remains etched in the memory of all his compatriots, in the words of founder of the event, Raed Khalil, to Prensa Latina.
He explained that 1,600 works by 668 cartoonists from 73 countries, including Cuba, are exhibited in the event.
Khalil expressed his desire to organize a Syrian-Cuban or Syrian-Latin American caricature event in order to strengthen ties, and considered that culture shortens distances.
The opening ceremony included a musical recital inspired by movies and soap operas starring the aforementioned actor.
