Strike partially paralyzes Paris transport

Paris, Feb 18 (Prensa Latina) The French capital on Friday dawned partially paralyzed by a strike of transport workers demanding pay hikes.

The Autonomous Parisian Transportation Administration (RATP, in French) urged travelers to move only the bare essentials, while the Government called on businesses to make the most of teleworking, a practice well known in the country in the last two years due to the scourge of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Of 14 subway lines in service, which move millions of people daily, just two, where the trains run without a driver, were unaffected by the strikes, while some operate only partially and others closed.

The bus and tramway system also have a service affected by the social movement, convened after disagreements between the management and the unions in the mandatory annual negotiations.

This Friday’s strike in Paris recalls the one that took place in late 2019 and early 2020, which lasted several weeks and paralyzed the country to demand the elimination of the pension reform then promoted by the Government.
