In its report about the issue, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) stated that the number of unemployed persons dropped to 189,000, accounting for a reduction of 0.6 percent in unemployment.
The jobless rate had remained stable in the previous four quarters, between 8.0 percent or 8.1 percent, in a context marked by the impact of Covid-19.
Economy and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire described the reduction as a major French victory and attributed it, in statements to RTL, to the government management.
