The new legislation, which will be voted on in the coming days, grants a nine-month deadline for those who possess a weapon to put it down or do the licensing procedures in case they meet the requirements set in the law, Fayez al-Ahmad, head of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, said.
He explained that the bill aims to put an end to the proliferation of weapons and limit them only in the hands of the State, and establish controls over the licensing of firearms.
According to legislator Faisal Jammoul, a member of the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee, this amendment is an urgent national need as many in the country had to carry weapons to defend their families and their country from terrorists.
At present, the firearms tenancy is no longer necessary in the hands of the people, given that more than 80 percent of the country is safe and has been liberated from terrorism, so those artifacts should be under the supervision of the State, the legislator stated.
