It would be a positive step as long as it does not harm the fundamental concerns expressed by Moscow linked to the need to seek other ways to ensure the security of all Euro-Atlantic countries, Lavrov said after the Russian-Brazilian talks in the 2+2 format.
This morning, the head of the Kremlin’s diplomacy met in Moscow with his Brazilian counterpart, Carlos Franca, and the defense ministers of that nation, Walter Souza Braga, and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Shoigu.
In statements to the press, the senior official said that his country would have every reason to take countermeasures if new UK anti-Russian sanctions, endorsed in legislation proposed by the British legislature, come into force.
“If such a law finally comes into force, I have no doubt that our Parliament will have every reason and, in fact, it will be necessary to pass a similar law against those who try to make a career and gain audience and popularity by the Russophobic way,” he stressed.
According to the foreign minister, Moscow hopes that other Western countries will not support London’s attempts to launch a new wave of unilateral measures against his country.
“In any case, I will emphasize that both, the Russian government and our parliament will not remain indifferent to what they are trying to do in the West,” Lavrov said.
