The completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) will not limit our commitment to protect smaller dams, but the current Sudanese stance serves the interests of a third party other than the people of that brotherly country, he added.
Speaking to Al-Arabiya, Arabic-language satellite television channel, broadcast in Addis Ababa, Hussien said that the GERD negotiations between Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt should be concluded soon “for the sake of the three countries.”
Ethiopia has already provided several opportunities and different guarantees so that the two nations benefit from the Grand Dam, but so far, they have not duly appreciated them, the diplomat stated.
However, he added, we will use it without causing significant damage to the downstream states and convinced that the dam is a great sign of cooperation and regional integration.
The minister also responded to several questions about the humanitarian situation in the regional state of Tigray and the border dispute between Ethiopia and Sudan, among other issues.
