The former Commander of the Navy, Rear Admiral José Américo Bubo Na Tchuto, the former Navy officer named Tchamy Yala, and a civilian by the name of Papis Djemé, were involved in the coup, according to the President, who said all were detained and have ties with drug trafficking.
He specified that Yala and Papis served prison sentences in the United States in 2014 when they tried to negotiate an agreement for the trafficking of drugs with undercover US DEA officers posing as members of South American drug cartels.
The attempted coup d’etat occurred on February 1st, when the president was leading a meeting of the council of ministers, but the assailants were captured after hours of combat, with a balance of 11 dead who are yet to be identified.
