Pahor made the decision after consultations with representatives of parliamentary groups in the National Assembly (parliament), where Prime Minister Janez Jansa’s conservative Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) governs, the Slovenian news agency STA noted on Wednesday.
The latest polls give Jansa’s SDS as the possible party with the most votes, although a very even dispute with the Social Democrats is expected.
The Slovenians will elect 90 deputies for a period of four years, of which 88 are by proportional representation, while the other two seats will go to the Italian and Hungarian minorities present in the country.
The president said that once the results are in, he will give the order to form a government to the candidate who enjoys the necessary support, that is, 46 votes or more from the elected legislators.
