China locks down 3.57 million people by Covid-19 outbreak

Beijing, Feb 8 (Prensa Latina) China on Tuesday has locked down 3.57 million inhabitants from the city of Baise (south), as part of the health contingency to neutralize a new Covid-19 outbreak with the Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant.

The quarantine also involves a halt to teaching, public transportation and non-essential business operations in Baise, the largest city in the Zhuang Autonomous Region of Guangxi and on the border with Vietnam.

Baise reported on Saturday at least 120 Covid-19 patients, made PCR tests to the entire population to detect asymptomatic contagions and has already classified some districts as risk areas for the transmission of the virus.

On Tuesday, China reported 151 confirmed and asymptomatic Covid-19 cases, after several days with a downward trend.

In general, China has accumulated at least 5,699 deaths and 140,821 contagions in its mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, since the disease, caused by the aforementioned coronavirus, was detected in December 2019.

This nation has about 90 percent of the population with the complete vaccination scheme against the disease, which ensured it to create a barrier of immunity.
