This decision once again confirms the AU’s support to the just cause of the Palestinian people and shows Tel Aviv’s increasing isolation, a communique by the Foreign Ministry stated.
It considered that this position shows the condemnation to the policies of aggression and racial discrimination that govern Israel’s behavior and its flagrant violations of the international legitimacy.
The African Union unanimously decided during its Summit held on Sunday in Addis Ababa to suspend the decision to grant observer status to Israel, in addition to setting up a commission of seven African heads of State to submit a recommendation about the issue.
In August last year, Israel was granted such status on the basis of a decision by AU Commission chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat, which was rejected by many African countries, led by Algeria.
