The argument is that it has the scientific evidence to treat any health problem. According to estimations, in mild cases of the disease, treatment is symptomatic, meaning that only the symptoms of a patient are treated.

There is no specific treatment as it is a viral infectious disease, therefore a person’s symptoms can be treated, be it with paracetamol or with other symptomatic medications, including homeopathic ones.

Dr. Andrea Flores, a member of the Research Commission on Homeopathy and an academic at UNAM, thus faces the criteria of her colleague Alejandro Macías, specialist in infectious diseases, who is critical towards the use of homeopathic medicine to treat contagion.

The director of the Institute of Security and Social Services of State Workers, (Issste), Pedro Zenteno, assured that anyone should have the freedom to choose the treatment since homeopathic medicine also has clinical studies that support its effectiveness and safety.

“Zenteno chose to treat his symptoms of Covid-19 homeopathically and that is what we as homeopathic doctors do with other patients who have the disease,” Flores said, and clarified that it is not a question of a specific medicine or that there is a strict treatment for Covid-19, but homeopathy treats the symptoms of any disease “safely and effectively,” she stressed.

The director of the National School of Medicine and Homeopathy of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), Rodolfo Luna, specified that this type of medicine can be used in all kinds of health problems, including combining it with an allopathic drug or other type of treatment, because the idea is to enter into a rapid control of the disease. He also explained that homeopathy is not an option for the treatment of any disease, homeopathy is water with sugar, it is in any case a placebo.
