Such a high number of people who are still analyzing where they will put their cross on the ballot paper is in tune with an unusual process. It is not so much because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but due to the great number of aspirants to the presidency.
Almost more than 3.5 million Costa Ricans are illegible to vote on February 6 to elect the president, two vice presidents and 57 legislators to the Legislative Assembly, who will hold office in the 2022-2026 period.
Considering that number of voters, almost 1,120,000 citizens will decide for whom to vote in the remaining hours or at the very moment of marking their ballot on Sunday in one of the 6,676 polling stations distributed throughout the national territory.
Poverty, social inequality -one of the highest in the Latin American region-, lack of opportunities and the educational backwardness of a large number of children and adolescents are the main problems, aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic, which must be urgently resolved.
