President Xi Jinping stated that China and Russia stand as “a reliable pillar” to unite the world in the face of crises, defend equality and practice authentic multilateralism, with a democratic spirit.
Putin, for his part, said Russian companies have new decisions on oil and gas supplies to China ready, including a contract to ship 10 billion cubic meters of gas a year from the Russian Far East.
The two leaders spoke before attending the opening ceremony of the 24th Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
As a preamble to their meeting, the Foreign Ministers China and Russia, Wang Yi and Sergei Lavrov, outlined the agenda to be discussed by their heads of state.
Putin is one of the 33 international leaders to attend the opening of the Winter Olympics and also fulfill an official agenda.
